KYLES VICTORY SETS UP ALL-SOUTH CUP FINAL
Tuesday, August 14th, 2012 at 10:58AM
The 2012 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final will be an all-South affair after Kyles Athletic disposed of reigning champions Newtonmore at Oban’s Mossfield Park on Saturday.
Only once previously has shinty’s blue riband event thrown up an all-southern encounter when Kyles faced Strachur and District Shinty Club in 1983.
Kyles opened the scoring just after the half hour mark when Thomas Whyte slammed the ball home before Roddy MacDonald doubled the Tighnabruaich men’s lead on 42 minutes.
‘More striker Danny MacRae provided an immediate response for the holders right on half time but that was all the Badenoch side could offer and it was Kyles who looked more likely to add to their tally in the second half.
Jonny Petrie, Sponsorship Manager at Scottish Hydro, said: “Congratulations to Kyles Athletic on reaching the 2012 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final. It’s great to see an all-Southern final for the first time in almost 30 years and Mossfield Park will provide a fitting venue for both teams.”
The final of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup will return to Mossfield Park, Oban on Saturday 15th September.
