Northern Californian Coach completes his UKCC Level 1

The Camanachd Association is delighted to report that the first shinty coach from out with the UK to complete the new United Kingdom Coaching Certificate (UKCC) Level 1 Coaching in Shinty qualification is Northern California Camanachd Coach Michael Bentley. Michael attended the course at the start of the year in Motherwell and following a period of putting into practice the additional knowledge he had gained, his final assessment was completed during his current visit to Scotland for the Camanachd Cup Final.

Michael received his UKCC/CA  Certificate from CA Chief Operating Officer Torquil MacLeod during his visit to the CA Office to discuss the affiliation of the newly constituted US Camanachd. The huge amount of work Michael, and his willing band of helpers, have put into the development of the sport in the USA is commendable and does the sport of shinty a great service internationally.

In his feedback of the course Michael said, “I really enjoyed the course and feel that it has made me a more effective coach. I also think it’s given me the tools to try and continue improving even though I’ll be working a long way from the usual shinty stomping grounds.”

The Camanachd Association achieved endorsement of this new course from sportscoachUK at the end of last year and this places our Coach Education structure on a par with the very best in the UK and now the world.
