SCOTTISH HYDRO NATIONAL DISTRICT SELECT SQUAD ANNOUNCED

The Camanachd Association has today (Tuesday 3rd July) announced The 2012 Scottish Hydro Under 17 National District Select Squad who will travel to Ireland and take part in a playing tour against their hurling counterparts, The Wester Meath Under 17 Squad and The U17 Dublin Development Squad.

The tour, which has been taking place for over twenty years, sees the elite shinty players from the previous year’s Scottish Hydro National Player Development Camp make up the squad.  This year’s squad is:

Innes MacDonald (Kyles Athletic)

Scott MacLeod (Beauly)

Shawn Headly (Skye)

Ewen Brady (Glengarry)

Daniel Madej (Oban Celtic)

Garry Mckerracher – Captain (Oban Celtic)

Malcolm Clark (Oban Camanachd)

Hamish Anderson (Kingussie)

Zachary Coley (Kyles Athletic)

Micheal MacKenzie (Lovat)

Jordan Murchison (Skye)

Craig Anderson (GMA)

Oliver Macrae (Kinlochshiel)

Fraser Heath (Glenurquhart)

Finlay MacMillan (GMA)

Jack MacDonald (Beauly)

Patrick Toal (Lochaber)

National Development Officer, Ronald Ross, said: “The Scottish Hydro National District Select Under 17 Squad, and the tour itself, is an integral part of shinty’s player pathway; it is the last opportunity for players to test themselves before preparing to step up to under 21 and senior level.  This year’s squad is made up of some highly skilful players, many of whom already hold spots in their own club’s first team.  I am in no doubt that we will see some excellent displays of shinty/hurling skill.”

Jonny Petrie, Sponsorship Manager with Scottish Hydro, added: “It is very important to us as a company to support our local communities and our involvement in youth shinty does just that.  These talented players are the future of the sport and we wish them the best of luck in their summer tour.”

The tour starts on Sunday 22nd July and finishes Wednesday 25th July.
