SENIOR & UNDER 21 NATIONAL SHINTY SQUAD ANNOUNCED

The Camanachd Association today, Monday 24th September, announced the 2012 Senior and Under 21 National Shinty Squads which will compete in this year’s Shinty/Hurling International Series against their Irish counterparts in Ennis, Co. Clare and for the Senior’s, also the home test at Bught Park, Inverness.

Head Coaches, Drew McNeil (Seniors) and Ronald Ross (Under 21s), also confirmed their Captains as Newtonmore’s Norman Campbell, who captained the Seniors in 2011, and Newtonmore’s Rory Kennedy for the Under 21s.

In speaking of the squad, Drew McNeil said, “I am really pleased with this year’s squad.  I had some difficult decisions to make during the selection process as there was a high number of talented, committed players available to chose from.  However I am confident that we have chosen players who can match the Irish and who can help us lift the International Series Trophy in Ennis.”

Under 21 Head Coach, Ronald Ross, added, “We were delighted to see such a high level of talent on show at the testing sessions.  This is my first year as Head Coach, so am very much looking forward to the trip across to Ennis and I and my coaching staff, believe we have selected players who can do their country proud.”

The Senior’s Home Test against the Irish takes place on Saturday 20th October at Bught Park, Inverness.  All three squads (Seniors, U21s and Women) then travel to Ireland the following weekend for the Under 21s encounter on Friday 26th October, the Senior’s Series Decider on Saturday 27th and the Scottish Women’s match against an Ireland Select also on the Saturday 27th.

The Camanachd Association will shortly be launching individual player sponsorship opportunities.
