Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final – More than a game!

The Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final – the greatest shinty show on earth -takes place at Mossfield Park in Oban on Saturday 15th September where Inveraray take on Kyles Athletic.  This year’s Final is not only the first all-South Final since 1983 but is also the first all-South encounter to take place in the South….and there’s more than just the game to enjoy on the day:

At 11.45am see some of shinty’s best youth players take the field in two national U14 Finals: The MacMaster Cup Final between Newtonmore and Oban Camanachd, and the Scottish Hydro Development Trophy Final between Inveraray and Uist.

Local Feisean band, Ceol an Aire, will be performing in the beer tent from 1.00pm and will be there after the match to keep you entertained.  Oban & Lorn Youth Pipe Band will also be putting in an appearance to lead teams out onto the field.

Caman will be on the field at half time to perform their newly released shinty song, ‘The Caman’.  The band, made up of Scotland Goalkeeper and Glenurquhart Shinty Club Captain, Stuart MacKintosh, and Newtonmore based musician, Davy Holt, have released the song in the hope it scales the Scottish charts and becomes a shinty anthem.  Plus, 10p from each download goes towards the development of youth shinty.

There will be range of trade and exhibition stands, including face painting and the ever popular Shinty Shop, selling official Scotland replica kit for the upcoming 2012 Internationals, plus exclusive shinty leisure wear and merchandise.

The bar is being provided by Fyne Ales and there will be a range of catering outlets, including the delicious Oban Spitroasts.  All outlets open from midday.

Finally, in partnership with the BBC, the giant screen makes a welcome return to this year’s Final, ensuring spectators are up close to all the on-field action.

So make it a BIG family day out at the 2012 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final.  Gates open at 11.30am, with the main game starting at 2.30pm.  Admission is £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and Under 12s are free when accompanied by a paying adult.  Tickets can be purchased in advance via the Oban Phoenix Cinema or at the ground on the day or online at www.shinty.com.   Spectators should be aware that there is limited car parking available at the venue so they should leave time to find space in town.  Other car parks in Oban include the Station Car Park, North Pier Car Park, Lochavullin Car Park and the Corran Halls Car Park.

Jonny Petrie, Head of Sponsorship for Scottish Hydro, is looking forward to the shinty’s showcase Final: “Scottish Hydro is proud to continue its support of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup competition and with an Argyll derby lined up for this year’s Final, it’s definitely set to be another memorable occasion. It promises to be an excellent day out, from the Scottish Hydro Development Trophy Final to live music and the Camanachd Cup Final itself, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at Mossfield Park on Saturday.”
