This Sunday: Women’s Cup Semi-Finals

This Sunday, 15th July, Badenoch hosts The Valerie Fraser and The Marine Harvest Challenge Cup Semi Finals as women’s shinty takes centre stage in the Highlands.

The Eilan at Newtonmore is the venue for a double header of Semi Finals for the Valerie Fraser Cup.  Matches are scheduled for 13:00 and 14:30 throw ups.  Meanwhile The Dell at Kingussie provides the venue for the Marine Harvest Challenge Cup, matches also scheduled for 13:00 and 14:30.

These Cup Semi  Finals will see the very best of the Women’s Marine Harvest National and Development Leagues battle it out for a place in the respective cup finals which will be played  on Saturday September 8th  in Strachur.  This is the first time the Women’s Cup Finals have been held in Strachur and the WCA are very much looking forward to taking advantage of the excellent facilities the new pitch has to offer.

Entry to each of the Semi-Finals is £2 and there will be a raffle at both.

The road to the Valerie Fraser Cup Semi Finals has seen several top standard and closely fought matches, most notably Glasgow Mid Argyll narrowly beating Badenoch & Strathspey during extra time of the Quarter Finals of the Valerie Fraser Cup and Glengarry edging past Cowal and Bute to win 3 – 2 and secure their place in the Semis.

The lead up to the Marine Harvest Challenge Cup Semi Finals has been just as exciting and competitive including notable victories by Strathglass over Skye Camanachd (6-2) and Cowal and Bute storming through to the Semi Finals with a 13-1 over Glengarry B.

The WCA are hoping for a good crowd at both The Dell and The Eilan this Sunday where 4 matches of top level women’s shinty will determine who will be joining us in Strachur to challenge for the 2012 titles.
