Marine Harvest Women’s Development Camp Great Success

On the weekend of July 21st and 22nd Strathallan School, Perthshire provided excellent facilities for the 2012 Marine Harvest WCA Senior Development Camp.

Near 40 female shinty players from clubs all over Scotland enjoyed a weekend of shinty skills and drills lead by first class coaches.  The WCA would like to thank Gillian Currie of Lovat Ladies Shinty Club, John-Alasdair of OJ Sports, Scott Campbell of Newtonmore Camanachd and Scotland Women’s coaching team, Laura McKay and Sarah Corrigall for providing excellent coaching over the course of the weekend.

The WCA are very pleased with both attendance levels and the positive, enthusiastic attitudes of every player involved.  A special mention goes to Joanne Ford of Ardnamurchan and Katie Drain of Glasgow Mid Argyll, who won ‘Most Improved Player of the Camp’ and ‘Player of the Camp’ respectively.

With player clubs ranging from Skye Camanachd to Aberdour and everywhere in between, the camp truly reflected a cross section of women’s shinty and was made possible by Marine Harvest sponsorship and sportscotland SportsMatch funding.

Over the course of the weekend each player participated in a variety of skills, fitness and match based drills which allowed players of every ability to work on specific areas of their shinty development and even learn some completely new skills.  As well as 2 full days of shinty, players also enjoyed a Saturday night social and were given the opportunity to take part in a Scotland International open training session on the Sunday afternoon.

Given the first class facilities, positive player feedback and overall success of the weekend the WCA are keen to host the 2013 Senior Development Camp at Strathallan, so save the date in your diaries now!
