Equity & Diversity

Equity & Diversity

Equity is about fairness and about ensuring equality of access for all, breaking down barriers and eliminating any form of discrimination, whether direct or indirect.

Equity recognises that people in society are not equal, and that unequal distribution of resources, entitlements or effort may be required to reduce existing inequalities and ensure equality of access and opportunity.

Equity is good for communities, good for organisations and good for sport.

In sport there is an Equity Standard, which is a UK-wide framework that assists sports organisations in achieving equity. There are four levels of accreditation – Foundation, Preliminary, Intermediate and Advanced, each of which has required outcomes and suggested evidence.

Equity and shinty

In November 2005, the Camanachd Association first adopted an Equity Policy. This was in line with other governing bodies of sport who have all committed to improving participation and performance.

The Association then sent out a statement of intent (February 2006) to the media committing to the process of achieving the foundation level of equity.  Foundation level was achieved and a new Equity Policy (Ensuring Access For All) was adopted in August 2008.  To view the policy, please click here.
