After a resounding result on Saturday that pushed Oban Camanachd into the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup Final, they will quickly have to refocus their attention to the Artemis Macaulay Cup Final this weekend. Kingussie travel to Mossfield to face an Oban side which, having booked its place in the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup Final, will now appear in 5 cup finals this season between its first and second teams, an impressive feat. Kingussie will not be intimidated by this however, the MowiPremiership leaders have been a force to be reckoned with in the league this season, losing only once.
The two sides last met on 27th July at Mossfield, Kingussie ran out 3-2 winners fuelled by a strong first half. Kingussie went into the break 2-0 up thanks to goals from Borthwick and Anderson. Oban came out swinging after the interval though - and got one back almost instantly through Cameron. At 2-1 it looked like anyone’s game, but Oban’s hope was short lived as 2 minutes later Roddy Young restored Kingussie’s two goal advantage. MacMillan’s 83rd minute consolation ensured it was an exciting ending, but a professional Kingussie side saw the game out.
Both sides faced tough competition to get to the final, Kingussie overcame Newtonmore in the Badenoch derby, while MacCuish and Macvicar both grabbed braces as Oban beat Kyles 4-1, foreshadowing their Camanachd Cup semi-final victory.
Oban Camanachd’s MacCuish will be tussling with Kingussie’s Anderson for top scorer; both currently sit joint 2nd behind Kyles Calum Mclay. That is but a background narrative to what promises to be a fantastic game.
Throw-up for this fixture is 4pm at Mossfield. If for some reason you are unable to make it to the game in person, coverage begins at 4pm on BBC ALBA.
