BEAULY SHINTY CLUB
“The Away Game” 1175 MILE 24 HR CHALLENGE
Beauly Shinty Club are aiming to raise money for the BEAULY CARES Community Group as part of a Strava Fitness Challenge.
BEAULY CARES is a local community volunteer group that has been doing fantastic work in and around Beauly supporting our Senior Citizens during the current Covid 19 crisis. Further information on the group is provided below.
With the shinty season having been in shutdown, the challenge that has been given to all members of our Strava Club is to walk, run or cycle the equivalent distance of travelling to all the clubs away games in the MOWI National Division within 24hrs - a massive 1175 miles!
The challenge is scheduled to take place on Saturday 30th May.
The club would invite you all to join our players and supporters in supporting the great work being done by BEAULY CARES in our Local Community during the Covid 19 crisis and beyond.
Please pledge your support by donating some pounds and pennies on the Clubs fund raising page – See Beauly Shinty Facebook page for link to our Just Giving site.
Alternatively, if you are local, give a donation to any of the clubs players and committee members in a sealed envelope with your name and address.
Any donation of £5 or more will be entered into a Club prize draw at the end of the challenge with the chance to win £100!
The Club Target is to raise at least £1000 for Beauly Cares.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
Beauly Cares (proper name Beauly & District Care Project) was set up in 2013 with the following aims.
- To reduce social isolation and improve the quality of life, health, well-being and independence of people in need by reason of age, ill-health or disability.
- To provide recreational facilities or organise recreational activities with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended.
- To this end we have established a Lunch Club, a Community Garden and Gardening Group, A Walking Group, the Men’s Shed and also provide transport for these activities and for those attending the Senior Citizen’s meeting in the Phipp’s Hall.
On the 12th March, the group had to close down all normal activities due to Covid-19 and immediately put together a list of all the activities and the members of the Senior Citizen’s Association. This gave the group a combined list of some 200 people. Each person received a phonecall providing a weekly help call facility, offering to collect and deliver any shopping that was needed, to collect any prescriptions that were required and just to provide a general help number for anything in the future.
The group are now in regular contact with a group of 68 people at least once each week. A group of 18 volunteers from within Beauly Cares carry out these phone calls each week. The group has also secured some funds to set up a shopping box scheme. This is a mixture of basic items such as milk, eggs, bread, some vegetables, some fruit and usually a few treats. A butcher pack has also been included. The group have been very generously assisted by the CO-OP and Munro Butchers. To date the group have delivered 66 shopping boxes to members of Beauly Cares and the Senior Citizen’s Association.
George Borland, Chairman, of Beauly Cares said: "We would like to be able to carry on with this activity to reach even more of our Senior citizens. Any money that we receive from the Shinty Club fundraiser will be put to good use as it will enable us to carry on reaching out, with shopping boxes or ready meals packs, to our citizen’s who are isolated whether by nature of illness, disability or due to restrictions with regard to Covid-19. We thank the shinty club for their support which will be of significant benefit and greatly appreciated.”
