Fort William's MacPhee not distracted by personal glory

With only two days to go until the Liberty British Aluminium Cup Final, we are featuring an interview with Mowi National Division top scorer, Fort William star and Liberty employee Arran MacPhee.

How has the journey to the final been?

AM: We have faced some tough fixtures in progressing to this stage in the competition. Ironically, the final will be the first fixture where we have played at home. Our results have been getting better throughout the rounds and hopefully we have left our best one for the final.

How confident are you ahead of the final?

AM: As a team, we are improving every game at the moment. Our defence and midfield have been strong up until this point in the season and we have a number of players contributing to goal scoring so we are in a good place. I am confident in our team’s ability but GMA are a strong side so we will of course but wary of the dangers they pose.

Do you think playing at home going to give you a competitive advantage?

AM: The familiarities of playing at An Aird will be nice to have. The groundsmen have been investing a lot of time and attention to the pitch this season, which is in great condition at the moment, so a fast-paced free flowing game of Shinty will hopefully ensue. I envision both teams will have numerous supporters and on the day of a cup final anything can happen, so I do not think playing at home will give us much of a competitive edge.

What do you think about the opposition? What kind of challenge will they represent?

AM: Glasgow are physically a strong and fit side but also merit skilful players who perform the core skills of Shinty exceptionally well. They beat us in the Semi-Final of this competition last year and we have had some closely contested games in the recent past so if we are to be victorious on the day we will have to play to our full potential.

As the tournaments 2nd top goal scorer, is that something you will have in the back of your mind going into the final?

AM: No, not particularly. All I will have on my mind going into the final will be concentrating on doing what I can to help the team to win.
