Lovat 1 Lochside Rovers 2 (After extra-time)
Lochside Rovers won the 2019 HIS Sir William Sutherland Cup, defeating the Lovat second team 2-1 after extra-time in the final at the Canal Parks on Saturday 20 July 2019.
The final was well attended as supporters from both clubs gathered around the touchline in expectation.
There were chances during the first half with Lochside creating more of the opportunities once they had properly settled into the match.
However neither side was able to break the deadlock during the opening 45 minutes so the sides went into the break on level terms.
Lochside youngster Ross Campbell opened the scoring on 71 minutes. Lochside worked the ball around the forward line and when it fell for Ross Campbell to the left of the D, he got away from his marker and struck a back-hand effort home to make it 1-0.
It only took Lovat a minute to level. A Lovat free-hit was played forward to Raymond Rennie who was right of centre around 25 yards from goal. Rennie stole a yard on his marker before turning and rifling the ball into the net.
With no further scoring, it would take extra-time to separate the sides.
Lochside went on to have the better of the extra-time period and they regained the lead on 97 minutes. Lochside turned defence into attack down their left side before the ball was played across goal and Lewis Buchanan whipped a shot into the net to score what proved to be the winner.
Lochside saw out the remainder of the final and referee Andy MacLean’s final whistle sparked Oban celebrations.
Lochside captain Jordan Kerr stepped forward to be presented with the Sutherland Cup by Garry MacKintosh from new sponsors HIS.
