MOWI SHINTY HOUR: Child Protection report

CHILD PROTECTION

Child Protection Officers ‘Shinty Hour’. Sponsored by MOWI

Wednesday 13th May. 6.00pm on Microsoft Teams

We are very grateful to the 30 people who attended the recent Child Protection Officers Workshop (presentation LINK).

The aim of the meeting was to establish a communication network for all Child Protection Officers along with updating everyone on information around the use of social media for online coaching and training sessions.

Andrew MacMaster (Caberfeidh), Elaine Cameron (Glengarry), John Robertson (Badenoch Ladies) and Rhona Morrison (Beauly) shared a number of best practice examples of some of the great work they are currently doing with their respective clubs.

Also discussed was the handling and processing of PVG Disclosure forms and online bullying. We also had an update from Sally Ross and Lucie Phillips from Children 1st, on the new online training courses available to Club Coaches and Child Protection Officers that replace, Safeguarding and Protection in Sport and In Safe Hands 1 & 2.

Below is links to information discussed on the night:

PVG’S – There are two types of PVG forms coaches and volunteers need to complete. For coaches that have never been through the disclosure process before they must complete the “Join Scheme form”. For any volunteers that have been through the process before and holds a disclosure with another group or organisation must complete the “Existing membership form. (the smaller of the two forms).

It was also discussed and agreed that when Clubs distribute PVG forms to their volunteers to complete, if they could then collect them back in for checking and then sending off to the Camanachd Association for processing.  This process will hopefully make sure all the forms are correctly filled in and they have been sent to the CA for processing. It will hopefully speed up the process in getting the forms processed.

The intention is to hold a follow up meeting in 3 months.

Can I thank everyone again for their valuable and positive input on the night. I would again highlight the sponsorship of MOWI.
