Inveraray Shinty Club has paid tribute to one of its greatest supporters, Donald Clark snr who passed away on Sunday. Donald, otherwise known as ‘Big D’, was the proprietor of The George Hotel and great supporter of the Shinty Club, having held various positions in the club throughout the years. Although not having played shinty, he was an accomplished Rugby player, playing for The West of Scotland in his younger years and using these skills to help coach the Inveraray team in the sixties. He then went on to Chair the club, a position his father had previously held before him, and of course The George has provided meals for visiting teams as far back as can be remembered. His hospitality extended beyond Inveraray and he even allowed a Kyles team to stay overnight when they had travelled by ferry and coach the day before, but his passion for shinty lay with Inveraray and he even arrived at Inveraray's Camanachd Final against Kingussie in 2002 by helicopter to ensure he watched the game. He will be sorely missed by all at Inveraray Shinty Club and we can only hope that it will be of some comfort to his son’s, Kris and Donald, that he has provided us with great memories over the years.
