Update - Children and Youth Shinty

UPDATE - Children and Youth Shinty

The Camanachd Association today welcomed the First Ministers announcement (9th July) where Nicola Sturgeon confirmed that 'subject to guidance' there is scope for a return to contact sport for children and young people.

This is hugely exciting news and something we have all been hoping for since lockdown began however there are still some details that need to be finalised before the Camanachd Association can permit any formal shinty.

To begin with we will liase with sportscotland and Scottish Government to prepare updated guidance for shinty clubs that reflects the new phase of the Scottish Government Routemap and this latest announcement.

Many clubs have already began their preparations for creating safe environments and refreshing policies and procedures to reflect the new world we live in. This is hugely important work and we commend them for the efforts. For any clubs that are looking to start this process please find guidance below related to the current steps clubs are required to take if they wish to return to shinty at the earliest possible time when it is safe to do so and in line with Government guidance.

On Monday 13th July the Camanachd Association Covid working group will meet with sportscotland colleagues to consider the implications of the latest guidance and to clarify the guidance referenced in the route map to ensure a safe return to contact sport. Further information will be shared with clubs following this meeting. In the mean time all clubs are encouraged to continue working through the readiness checklist to prepare their club for a return to shinty when it is safe to do so.

Please refer to the support documents below for further information or our COVID 19 resources page for further information .

At a later date still to be confirmed it is expected that a return to child and youth shinty may be possible however our plans for this are subject to Scottish Government approval and guidance as well as clubs completing the Club Readiness checklist. Only at that time will the Camanachd Association be in a position to reactivate member insurance.

If you have any questions about the above guidance or would like support to work through the club readiness checklist please contact your Regional Development Officer.
