The Glasgow Celtic Society is delighted to announce that Scottish Sea Farms, is to sponsor The Glasgow Celtic Society Challenge Cup in 2019 for a second year.

First played for in 1879, the Glasgow Celtic Society Challenge Cup is the oldest of its kind in the sport of shinty and the premier knock-out competition for clubs in the South of Scotland.  This year’s Cup Final, hosted once again by Taynuilt Sports Council at the village sports-field, will take place on Saturday 29th June 2018 where it will be broadcast live by BBC ALBA.

Donald Fletcher, the Society’s new incoming President said, “We are delighted at Scottish Sea Farms’ continued support following the outstanding success of last year’s Final, the buy-in and support of our sponsor allowed us to stage our most ambitious Final yet and we look forward to working closely with them to ensure a similar success this June.”

The sponsorship was secured via Scottish Sea Farms’ long-standing ‘Heart of the Community’ initiative which provides grants to teams, groups and organisations in and around the areas in which it farms: everything from sports clubs and events, to mother and toddler clubs, playparks, adult learning, and support with alcohol and drugs dependency or depression.

Georgie Mackenzie, Heart of the Community Co-ordinator at Scottish Sea Farms, said: “Shinty is a game of huge relevance to many of the communities in which we live and farm, and the team are delighted to be returning as sponsor of the The Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final; a tournament that has been instrumental in keeping this uniquely Scottish sport alive in the hearts and minds of young and old alike.”
