Shinty Refereeing: Understanding the challenges 2

Martin Maclean: Grade 1 Referee

It is important that if Shinty is going to recruit and maintain Referees in the future that everyone involved in the sport understands the challenges involved as much as possible.

Referees can only make decisions on what they see and if you are looking from a different angle, or supporting one team over another, the picture can look different.

Try out your decision making skills by watching the following video clips from the CA Coaching Shinty You Tube site: Free Hits

What would your decision be?

Referees are vital to the continued development of shinty and refereeing is an excellent way to keep fit and stay involved in the great game.  The Camanachd Association needs to recruit more referees for the 2018 season, particularly for senior league and cup matches. We are also looking for Youth/University/WCA referees especially from current players.

As a shinty referee you get:

·       Match fee & mileage allowance

·       Matches can be allocated on a local basis

·       Matches can be allocated to fit with your availability

As a first step towards getting involved all you need to do is attend a FREE four-hour Foundation Refereeing Course or 2 ½ hour Foundation Youth/Uni/WCA course.

So if you are interested, or if you know someone who would be, please get in touch with

Astie Cameron on 01463 715931 / 07912 731295 / astie.cameron@shinty.com
