This weekend will see the conclusion of two vital youth competitions.
The Mowi London Shield for U17's will take place on Saturday at 1:30 at Skye. The 2018 winner's will welcome Newtonmore to Portree for the culmination of the competition. Skye thrashed Beauly 12-3 on aggregate in the semi-finals, whereas Newtonmore scraped past Oban Camanachd 3-2 following a tense second leg at Mossfield.
This will be the second major final that Newtonmore U17's have been in this year following their unfortunate defeat to Badenoch rivals Kingussie in the Cottages.com MacTavish Juvenile Final. Skye, who have home advantage after the toss of the coin, will not be easy opponents though and will be eager to hold onto their title.
Sunday sees the culmination of the MOWI U14 North Phase 2 Division 1 league. Beauly U14's will be taking on Kinlochshiel Shinty Club U14's in a playoff match as there was nothing to separate the two sides throughout the regular campaign. Beauly U14's narrowly lost their home fixture against Kinlochshiel 1-0 earlier in the season, but got revenge by beating Shiel 4-1 away.
Kinlochshiel, however, will point towards the MacMaster semi-final where they put 4 past Beauly at home, going on, of course to lift the MacMaster Cup. Kinlochshiel are far from a one man team, but Beauly would do well to attempt to contain the Mowi Under 14 Player of the Year Archie MacRae who has been in scintillating form this season. The playoff match will take place at Bught Park at 13:30 on Sunday.
The Camanachd Association wishes all 4 teams the best of luck in what promises to be an exciting weekend of youth shinty.
