Warm congratulations from the Camanachd Association to Glasgow Mid Argyll who achieved promotion to the Mowi Premiership on Saturday.
GMA snapped up the second and final promotion spot from the Mowi National Division after beating Skye 3-1 at Pairc Nan Loch. Skye went 1-0 up on the 12th minute through a Ross MacKinnon strike that would’ve driven fear into the Glasgow side – after such a strong season, were they going to let it all go to waste? Skye were battling well and the half-time live table would’ve put them above GMA had it not been for a goal from Calum Mclay on the 42nd minute.
The Glasgow side only needed a draw to confirm promotion and could be forgiven for adopting the defensive tactics that have seen them do so well this year. Craig Anderson settled the nerves on the 78th minute as he put GMA 2-1 up before Manager Mark Bain bagged his 9th of the season in all competitions. Skye will undoubtedly rue a missed opportunity having gone a goal up, however, they can be proud of a strong season and will be among the favourites for promotion next season.
All in all, it was a great season for GMA who not only were promoted to the Mowi Premiership, but also made it to the final of the Liberty British Aluminium Balliemore Cup, narrowly missing out to Fort William.
Tune in later this week when we shall have an interview with Glasgow Mid Argyll manager, Mark Bain.
