Women's Cup Finals Day
The Mowi Challenge Cup opens a fantastic day of shinty at the Dell as Lovat Ladies take on Inverness Ladies. The two teams are separated by 12 points in the WCA Mowi North Division 2, with Lovat at the summit of the table. With that in mind the Kiltarlity side will be favourites going into the game as they look to add to their two victories against Inverness this season. Inverness will be eager to make up for 2018 heartbreak however, as they were defeated 4-3 by GlenUrquhart.
After the Mowi Challenge Cup has whet the appetite, the showpiece of the year returns, the Mowi Valerie Fraser Camanachd Cup Final. The premier competition sees Skye Ladies take on Badenoch Ladies. There is little doubt that they deserve their place in the final as the two sides are currently 1st and 2nd place in the WCA Mowi National Division 1. Skye are 2 points behind Badenoch but have a game in hand and superior goal difference. Both sides have been in free scoring form this season with a combined total of 193 goals from 23 games.
Skye’s only defeat came in the first game of the season against their fellow finalists, as they lost 2-1 at home after a Kirsty Deans double cancelled out a Lorna MacRae strike. Skye returned the favour at the end of June as they took both points back from The Dell after a fantastic end to end game which eventually finished 4-3. It’s not just up front that the two sides are impressive, they both boast sturdy defences. In fact, all but 2 of the mere 7 goals that Skye have conceded in the league have come against Badenoch. Likewise, Badenoch have only conceded 1 goal outside of fixtures against their final opponents.
Kirsty Deans is undoubtably the danger player for Badenoch and is in astonishing form, scoring 41 goals this season alone. That sensational tally is one bested by Skye’s Lorna MacRae who will need to be tightly marked if Badenoch are going to walk away with the trophy again.
