Lochside Rovers End 20 Year Wait For Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup Success

Lochside Rovers 3 Kingussie 1

Lochside Rovers lifted the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup for the first time in 20 years when they beat the Kingussie second team 3-1 in the re-arranged final at An Aird on Sat 16th September.

A large crowd assembled for this match and it was the Oban side who took a 12 minute lead courtesy of Craig MacDougall’s low shot.

Lochside could have been further ahead at the break had it not been for some fine goalkeeping from Robert Shiells in the Kingussie goal.

Lewis Buchanan made it 2-0, firing the ball into the top corner of the net following a rehearsed free-hit routine on 63 minutes.

Kingussie substitute Kevin Thain pulled a goal back on 71 minutes, crashing the ball high into the net and although the Kings went all-out for an equaliser, the Lochside defence played well throughout the game.

Lochside substitute Ruaraidh Horn made it 3-1 on 82 minutes with a half-volley which left the keeper helpless.

Lochside deserved the win, with Chrissie MacMillan commanding in defence, and their captain Michael MacQueen, who had a great game at full centre, was presented with the Sutherland Cup in front of a delighted Oban support.
